The Brazilian government is increasing the ethanol content in petrol from 27 % to 30 % and the biodiesel content in diesel from 14 % to 15 %. The new blending values will apply from 1 August 2025.
In Switzerland, we are still much more cautious with the current standards:
Today, petrol stations offer E5 (petrol with 5 % bioethanol) and B7 (diesel with 7 % biodiesel).
E10 is currently being planned, B10 is considered a possible option for the future.
At the same time, the European standardisation body CEN is already working on a new E20 standard, i.e. petrol with up to 20 % bioethanol.
Brazil shows what is already technically and politically possible today.
Yes - and this has been scientifically confirmed.
The E30 tests were carried out by the Technical Institute of Mauá, together with vehicle manufacturers, importers and representatives of the Brazilian automotive industry.
