Will flight shame soon be a thing of the past? The Swiss company Synhelion is working on producing fuel from solar energy. The ETH spin-off recently inaugurated its first industrial plant.

That's what it's all about:

  • According to the WWF, aviation is the biggest emitter of greenhouse gases in Switzerland.
  • In June, the Swiss start-up company Synhelion a big step towards more sustainable flyingIt has inaugurated the world's first industrial plant for the production of solar fuels.
  • "Our goal is to cover half of Europe's demand for sustainable aviation fuels by 2040," says media spokeswoman Carmen Murer.
  • Next year, the first commercial plant is to be built in sunny Spain. Swiss wants to become the first purchaser of the fuelwhich produces around 85 per cent fewer emissions than conventional paraffin.
  • "The world is only at the beginning of the energy transition," says Carmen Murer. Every person can make a big difference by thinking about what they want to contribute themselves.
