At its meeting on 2 April 2025, the Federal Council brought the revised CO2 Ordinance into force with partial retroactive effect from 1 January 2025. This sets out the reduction targets for greenhouse gas emissions in the various sectors up to 2030. It also specifies the measures that Parliament adopted with the revision of the CO2 Act in March 2024. Among other things, the CO2 Ordinance regulates the new federal support for measures to adapt to climate change as well as support measures for companies that use climate-friendly technologies.
The revised CO2 Act aims to halve Switzerland's greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. Two thirds of the reduction will be achieved through domestic measures.
