CONTINUED SUBSIDIES FOR BIOFUELS
The National Council also agrees that fuels from biomass should continue to be subsidised, as the Council of States had written into the law. Martin Bäumle (GLP/ZH) made it clear in the debate on behalf of the preliminary consultation committee that the point had simply been forgotten. The measure was important for CO₂ reduction and the costs were justifiable.

The core of the proposal is Article 3, which continues the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by a further 1.5 1TP3 tonnes per year until 2024. At least 75 % of this must be offset with domestic measures.

A second proposal for a comprehensive new CO₂ law is currently being drafted. The Federal Council has already established the key parameters that it will adhere to the halving target by 2030 and net zero by 2050.
