The global market leader wants to compete against electric cars with a new engine. Founder heir Toyoda expects combustion engines and fuel cells to be the most important drive systems in the future.
Together with its competitors Subaru and Mazda, Toyota presented designs for 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre engines that are significantly smaller and around ten percent lighter than current petrol engines. The engines are also intended to run on CO2-free fuels and thus contribute to climate protection.
